RUSSIAN MUSIC PIANO COMPETITION


From Tchaikovsky to Rachmaninoff and beyond---more than a hundred contestants from around the world will compete in the 14th annual Russian Music Piano Competition. The daily competition is being held between June 7th and June 16th at Le Petit Trianon in San Jose. It's free, and open to the public. For more information, visit www.russianmusiccompetition.com.

MODERN CHINESE PHOTOGRAPHY

ANDY WARHOL IN THE SOUTH BAY


You'll have more than a quarter hour to see Andy Warhol's works in the South Bay. 21 works from the pop artist who predicted that everyone would be famous for fifteen minutes, has come to the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford. ALEX'S LEMONADE STAND


Stand up to childhood cancer at an old fashioned lemonade stand. Named after the stand started by a childhood cancer victim to raise money for research, an "Alex's Lemonade Stand" is coming to San Jose. THE SAN JOSE GIANT RACE


Race to the ballpark---literally! The San Jose Giant 5 mile and 5K race returns to San Jose on June 1st. The event course runs through Kelly Park and History San Jose, and winds up at Municipal Stadium. All entrants get a ticket to a weekend game. Admission runs between 30 and 50 dollars. CANCER ALLEY


The economic and ecological devastation in a stretch of largely African American rural south is being chronicled in Richard Misrach's "Cancer Alley". LYNBROOK HIGH SCHOOL REUNION

TWO CENTURIES OF CALIFORNIA LIVING


"A Place To Call Home: Two Centuries of California Living" uses artifacts, letters and photographs to document how California's homes have changed from the days of spanish settlers to the 21st Century. HULA HOOP FITNESS


Hula Hoop your way to fitness! A Hula Hoop fitness class will be offered at Vasona Lake Park on Saturday, May 25th. Hula Hoops will be provided, no experience is necessary. TACO FESTIVAL OF INNOVATION


Love Tacos? Then May 25th is your day. The "Taco Festival of Innovation" will feature an array of food trucks all offering their take on the taco. More than 35 trucks will be taking part, all offering tacos for five dollars and under. DANCING THROUGH HISTORY


Travel through history by dancing! San Jose Community Dance will teach you dances of the past, from Elizabethan times to the dawn of the 20th century in a series of classes. Spend a day on the links for a good cause. The "Math 'Fore' All" event on June 1st benefits the Jose Valdes Math Institute. LOMA PRIETA FIREFIGHTERS BARBEQUE


Come salute the men and women who protect the Santa Cruz Mountains while enjoying a taste treat. The 50th annual Firefighters Fundraiser Barbeque is being held on June 2nd. You can buy great Steak or Chicken Barbeque meals, and the proceeds benefit the Loma Prieta Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department. MAHLER'S FIFTH SYMPHONY


The Nova Vista Symphony presents Gustav Mahler's towering Fifth Symphony. The San Jose Chamber Youth Orchestra will perform the work on June 8th at the McAfee Performing Arts Center in Saratoga.
