Disaster Preparedness
The Santa Clara County Office of Emergency Services outlines 10-ways you can be Disaster Prepared:
Learn which kinds of natural and human-caused disasters pose a risk for your area (earthquakes, fires, etc.)
Develop a Family Disaster Plan and put it in writing.
Build Disaster Supply Kits for your home, office, and car.
Choose an out-of-town contact person whom family members may call to report how and where they are during an emergency.
Know where to go during an emergency; designate a park, school or other convenient location.
Prepare your children and remember those with special needs, such as infants, seniors, and people with disabilities.
Include your pets in your Family Disaster Plan.
Eliminate hazards in your home and office.
Learn how to keep yourself and your family safe by taking first aid, CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and other preparedness classes.
Get involved -- donate blood, educate your neighbors, and join your local Citizen Corps and volunteer.
Resident preparedness is one aspect of the county’s operational plan. During the first 72 hours of a disaster, there may be a disruption in utilities such as phones, water and electricity, as well as local businesses and roadways. Being prepared and self sufficient can make all the difference on how well the community responds and recovers from a disaster.
For more information on preparing for a disaster, go to www.sccgov.org. |

Sharing Memories of Lou’s Village
History San José invites you to take part in its fifth Online Exhibit on Sharing Memories of Lou’s Village.
Thousands of South Bay diners will recall a good Lou’s Village story.
The site documents how two former San José firefighters opened a “supper club” in 1946, and follows the path of the Santoro and Muller families.
During the 60-year histories of San José’s changes, families celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and had dinner and cocktail parties, listening to famous performers and live musicians. Lou’s Village became ‘part of the family’.
Personal stories and memories are one of the most important parts of Lou’s Village. The beauty of this online exhibit is that anyone can easily contribute to the collection of memories by clicking the Share Your Memory button.
This exhibit will feature many of the black and white photographs that lined the walls of the restaurant and welcomes individual stories and memories.
The Lou’s Village online exhibit is sponsored by SummerHill Homes and presented by History San José. Other online exhibits can be viewed at www.historysanjose.org and include Cannery Life: DelMonte in the Santa Clara Valley; Neighborhoods of San José, Dairy Hill; and Label Legacy: The Muirson Label Company. 9/11: Blueprint For Truth The Architecture of Destruction
Six and a half years after 9/11 many details remain unexplored by the general public. How and why did THREE World Trade Center buildings, #1, #2, AND #7, collapse? What were the flashes and explosions reported by over 100 first responders? What caused the molten iron “flowing like lava” found under the buildings weeks after 9/11?
Architect Richard Gage will address these issues and more in his live multi-media presentation: 9/11: Blueprint For Truth The Architecture of Destruction at 12 Noon, on Saturday, May 10th, in the San Jose State University Engineering Auditorium.
There is no charge for this event, but donations will be gladly accepted.
Don’t miss this timely and informative presentation!
